About the room

🌈 Queer/gender/BIPOC friendly 🌈 ~Unfortunately no couples, landlord has stipulated max occupancy of 3 ~Move in mid/late March - April 1st, can be flexible ~Non smoking (also lease stipulation)

Hello! We are Zoe and Joel, a couple in our late 20’s moving from Melbourne to Vancouver to live and work on an IEC visa. We have recently signed a lease on a two bedroom basement suite, and are looking for someone to move in with us.

When we’re at home, we love slow mornings making coffee and doing crosswords, watching films, and have recently been getting into board game nights. Not to say we don’t enjoy a night at the pub with pals every now and then, but our partying days are mostly behind us, we’re not big drinkers or drug takers, and have moved into enjoying social dinners over big ragers. Zoe is still a keen festival goer and Joel can occasionally be convinced.

Over the past 18 months we have lived in our van, backpacked overseas, and house-sat full time. We are now looking forward to having our own home-base for a while. We’re excited to create an intentional, light/plant filled, cozy and calming space for ourselves (hopefully, with your help!) Joel is vegan and Zoe is vego tending vegan when she can resist pastries. Our ideal housemate ideally doesn’t cook with meat super regularly but we’re flexible!

🪻 ABOUT THE HOUSE🪻 Quaint, 2 bedroom, basement studio located between Knight and Victoria-Fraserview. Real estate agents would probably call it “cozy”, it is by no means big. 800sq feet (congratulations if that means anything to you!), with a shared bathroom and living space, separate laundry/storage space, but we believe with the right person and some intentional design/furnishing choices, it will be perfectly sized.

The house comes furnished with most essentials, and our plan is to slowly replace/add to truly make it our own comforting and cozy space. Rent for your room will be $1100, bills inclusive (except internet and mandatory tenant insurance), and in total the place is $2400. We will consider cats (landlord says no dogs 😭), but unfortunately maximum occupancy is 3, so we can’t have couples, sorry!

🌿 WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR 🌿 We are really excited to build a community for ourselves in Vancouver, and see our potential housemate as an extension of that. We are hoping to find a housemate who can become a friend - someone we can come home to and have a chat and a laugh, share a meal or watch a movie together with. Though we’d like a social home, we’re ideally looking for someone who values their own downtime and can respect ours when we need it. We’re also both very eager to learn new skills this year, and love the idea of “skill-sharing”, so if you’ve got any particular hobbies or skills, creative, physical, whatever, let us know!

✨Having a clean and well organised space is very important to us. We are very reasonable about this (we are by no means perfect!) but if you know this isn’t something you’re normally fussed with/put effort into, this might not be the place for you✨

We’re really looking forward to meeting our new housemate! If this sounds like you, please send us a message introducing yourself and why you think you might be a good fit.

Looking forward to hearing from y’all Z&J

About the roomies

🌿 ABOUT US 🌿

  • Zoe (29, she/her) has spent the past few years working as as project manager and consultant, and is often in roles that allow her to work from home. She’s a social butterfly, nature enthusiast, amateur rock climber and aspiring creative (in the want-to-make things sense rather than the want-to-monetize sense).

  • Joel (28, he/him) works as a coffee roaster and barista. An avid rock climber, amateur letterboxd reviewer, occasional vegan chef genius (occasional beige food king), huge nerd for Australian Rules Football, and silly little goofball that lives for a good bit.
