About the room
This is a furnished room in a 3 bed flat in a small building that has 2 upper flats, 2 main flats and lower level units. My flat is a main floor flat. Lots of historic character and charm with a wood burning fireplace in the living room! Your room is between the living room and the kitchen with doors to each connected to your room. There are large windows that face the driveway. My place has front windows that face east and back bathroom window faces west. You will share the space with my 5 yr old son and I. Our rooms are toward the back of the flat next to the shared bathroom that has a bath/shower.
I take pride in interior design and have a pretty cozy aesthetic. The room currently has a desk and desk chair, queen mattress and boxspring with bedding and pillows, bedside table and lamp and a wardrobe, and a large 8x10 area rug. I am happy to furnish remaining needs (dresser and bed frame). There are no locks on your bedroom doors, and I actually don’t really like locked doors. I find it exclusive. I am close to my neighbours in the building and often leave my kitchen door (which leads to the back stairwell and down to laundry and other apartments) open. I lock front and back doors for sleeping. I’m an east-coaster… perhaps this is why I have this mentality. I also sleep with my bedroom door open. Not a huge fan of closed doors either! You are welcome to do as you please with your doors of course. Our last flatmate was with us for 3 yrs and was close with my son and I. My son would often go in in the morning to say good morning.
I have a cleaner come twice a month. Outside of this, the place can get in some disarray. I try to keep the kitchen and bathroom tidy.
I work a lot and am outside of the house a lot. My son stays at his Dad’s some nights also.
I love pets, but sadly don’t have any currently.
The house is near Yonge and Eglinton, so close to the subway station. I drive and happy to share the car sometimes.
The street is lovely and has a sweet cafe at the corner and a gas station with an A&W for late night cravings. In the summers we tend to hang in the front patio under the lights together as the kids play.
I enjoy setting up my flower pots in the summer and making a cozy spot for lounging.
I don’t cook very often. Something I struggle with. If I do cook, I will always share.
There is coin laundry in the basement.
I don’t really entertain much at home as I don’t have the room I feel. Common space is the living room. There is a small bistro table in the galley kitchen, but I find we eat on the couch in the living room. I want to work on eating in the kitchen more often.
I’m pretty quiet, but surrounded by latino neighbours who are lots of fun. I don’t smoke and drink alcohol occasionally, with dinner, socially, never to excess. I really don’t like drunkeness and this wouldn’t be a fit for my home. Non-smoking is a must. My roomates in the past have always stayed for quite a while mostly and have loved living with me. I’m open to any length of time really.
About the roomies
I’m a Nurse Practitioner, 44, from Halifax, NS. I work a couple different jobs as an independent contractor and I’m working on building a business and brand for myself. I work a lot. Sunday is my day off with my son. We will spend the morning at home often, make french toast or pancakes and then visit friends.
When I have a night without him I will sit on the couch and watch a show often, while multi-tasking something else. I do love having someone else at home and miss my last roommate. I’m friendly and very chill.
