Dufferin Street

Spacious, bright bedroom in a shared rent-controlled unit. Our rental unit is a 3-bedroom, 1-bathroom, 1 living room + full kitchen unit in the front half of a semi-detached house near Dufferin subway station. Your room will be on the 2nd floor and is spacious and tall with a walk-in closet, and a large west-facing bay window.

Term: Roommate agreement with no set term. 1+ year preferred.

Utilities: Rent is $910.54/month, with water, hydro, and AC included ($0). Internet is $14.69/month.

Location: Dufferin St, near the corner of Shanly St. 5-minute walk to Dufferin TTC Station. 10-15 minute walk to Dufferin Mall, Galleria Mall, and grocery stores (NoFrills, Walmart, Fresh Co, convenience stores, etc.). Bike-friendly, with biking routes nearby. Laundromat across the street.

Sounds: Generally quiet. Some weekends our downstairs neighbor will have his kids over, so there may be loud noises every now and then while they play (e.g., occasional shouts when they are energized); however, nights are always quiet. Sometimes we play music while washing dishes but the house is overall a quiet peaceful space. The walls are a little thin for the room for rent but again, quiet house so shouldn’t be an issue!

Pets: The space is pretty full with 3 cats already so preference for no pets, but we are open to discussing the possibility of another cat. However, the space is unfortunately not dog-friendly.

The past 4 roommates who have lived here have all come from Homes For Queers and have held a variety of intersecting identities, and we are pleased to be able to maintain our cozy queer household for a new addition! We are both queer and gender nonconforming young people, politically informed, and committed to several social justice issues.

Roomie 1: Hi, my name is Corbin! I’m a white queer man (he/they) with two cats. I am a lifelong Toronto renter, progressive activist, environmental scientist, microbiologist, and tenant organizer. At home, I am quiet and tend to hang out in my room with my two mellow older cats (Smudge, a 20-year old fossil, and Ted, a 7-year old middle-aged man). I enjoy playing video games and board games, and I plan on setting up my old Xbox 360 and PS3 in the living room for communal use and games nights.

Roomie 2: Hellooo, my name is Rhi! (they/them) I am a white genderqueer vegan and professional animal rights activist in my late 20’s. I’m a social butterfly, very friendly and love a good yap session! I also really appreciate shared quality time with my roommates. I love cooking, reading and watching horror movies/speculative fiction, and rock climbing. I have a sweet and energetic young cat named Stella who is a lovely addition to our group of furry friends.

There is a living room on the first floor that we do not currently have access to while we wait on a final decision by the Landlord and Tenant Board regarding an access dispute with our Landlord, but we anticipate regaining access to the space in the coming months. (We know a ton about renters’ rights in Ontario so you’ll be safe and sound against harassment here! We also founded a Tenants Association for fellow renters under our shared Landlord).

We have a preference for someone who is vegetarian or vegan to maintain our current all-vegan space, and who enjoys casual conversation in common areas. Corbin and I are best friends and have created a very warm, cozy and ‘homey’ home. We don’t all need to be best friends, but we are definitely looking for someone who we can be friendly with and share occasional communal time with! Looking for someone clean and tidy, willing to take on shared chores (we split them up based on preference) and who is not too noisy to accommodate thinner walls.
