About the roomies
Two adult males in our late 30s and one special needs dog (a partially paralyzed border collie/german shepherd mix).
The guys are pretty introverted and keep to themselves; one is self-employed and works from home, and the other is out at work 40 hours a week. We like video games, card games, board games, superheroes, scifi, and other nerdy things. We do not have guests over often (almost never).
The dog is a rescue with a history of past abuse. He is partially paralyzed, but that doesn’t stop him from being territorial and protective of his owner and home and he is distrusting of strangers (especially male strangers). He exhibits aggressive reactive behaviour to his triggers, both of which include other dogs and strangers in the home.
We need a roommate who preferably is a woman who can be patient, likes dogs (but doesn’t have one), and is sensitive to the fact that this dog may take some time to warm up to her. We are open to male roommates as well, but would prefer female purely because of the dog’s preferences. It took him about 6 months to get used to having one male roommate, while female roommates in the past have taken a lot less time for him to warm up to (measured in weeks instead of months). Finding the ideal candidate who is comfortable with taking the time to warm up to this dog is critical, and is the most important deciding factor on who we let move in.
