About the room

2 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom condo in Westboro/Ottawa. The building has a gym and a common room on the main floor, and it’s full of very friendly, very quiet neighbours. It’s important to note the entire property has a condo bylaw that prohibits smoking. This means no smoking in the condo or common areas of the building but also you can’t smoke on the balcony or on the roof here. This unit has two bathrooms, so the second one (attached to the living room) will be predominantly for my roommate. I will generally stick to using the master bathroom and keeping my stuff over there. There is actually a private door connecting the living room bathroom to the room being rented; so, if you’re showering, you don’t have to worry about coming out into the common area in order to get back to your room (you can get there directly from that bathroom and have privacy).

We have transit connections nearby, several grocery store options, lots of great parks, shops, cafes, restaurants, and we have underpass access to get to the bike path that follows along the river on the north side of the parkway. The Farmers Market is here on Saturdays between 10am-3pm and there is a community swimming pool about 5-10min walk away.

There is some LRT construction around the area but the loud parts are already over and they’re in the process of setting things back to normal now. Unfortunately, the place does only come with one parking spot and I’m already using it so I can’t offer parking. But it might be viable to rent one from one of the other neighbours privately. When the LRT project is (finally lol) over, we’ll have a station very close by to here.

The room is setup as an office currently and I’m planning to move my furniture out (or you can borrow my desk if you like; it’s old but a nice sized desk for a student, working from home professional, or fellow PC gamers who might need space for 2 monitors.

As much as I adore animals and do have my own, I have to say no any additional pets joining us. And given I’m including the cost of utilities in the monthly fee, I have to insist no overnight guests. I’m not wanting be paying those costs for more than just the one person (the room/listing is for just one person, not a couple). If I had money to comp the costs for extra people, I wouldn’t need a roommate, right? lol :D

You would just have the one roommate (female, 30’s) who already lives here and has a pet budgie. I am agnostic and relatively centrist in my politics so I can generally get along with most people and I’m fairly open-minded. The one line I have to draw in the sand is that my home is a pro-LGBQT+ environment and will need to remain that way. Though I am not a member of this group myself, I have close friends and family who are. While I won’t censure anyone’s personal thoughts or feelings on the matter (you do you), I do feel strongly that this would not be an appropriate living arrangement for anyone who will feel uncomfortable with or unwelcoming towards LGBQT+ individuals.

I’m expecting to stay in this unit for at least another 2 years while I complete a graduate degree and I plan to continue doing a lot of my work from home as I do now (mornings/afternoons/evenings/weekends). Because of this, I will definitely want it to remain quiet for the most part. I also have a fairly severe dust allergy so keeping it clean is really important to me too. If you’re a bit of a neat freak who likes to go out for your excitement but have a quiet space at home to come back to for work and relaxation, then I think we will get along really well and the neighbours will like you too. I’m a bit of a night owl but I’m generally very quiet. :)

I’m a big PC gaming nerd, I like table top and card games, hiking, camping, streaming shows and movies, and getting out into the city to explore and discover different cultural events going on or restaurants. I have a dog, two nephews, and a niece back home in Toronto that I adore. I’m studying French in my spare time (I’m around a B1) and when I have the extra income to throw at it, I’ve spent a lot of my time working towards a Latin and ballroom social style dance certificate. I like to cook, and I absolutely love coffee (lol and if I like you a lot, will probably share the coffee beans I bring up here from my favourite shop back in Toronto).

Some restrictions: Absolutely no drugs, no parties, no loud music, no guests unless both roommates have agreed in advance (I’ll agree to do the same, with the one exception being that a couple of times a year my mom visits from Toronto for a few days). And as mentioned above, no smoking, no overnight guests, no pets.
