About the room
Ever dreamed of living in small town Ontario with queer roommates, a big backyard, several pets, and a short walk to a lake?
My partner and I are looking for a roommate who is interested in shared living and likes animals (we have three cats and a small dog). Rent is $650 including all utilities, internet etc. Move-in date is very flexible, likely sometime in the summer, the most important part is finding a good fit for all of us.
About the space The house is an old house in Newboro with 2.5 bedrooms upstairs and two living rooms downstairs. Currently there is one bathroom upstairs, but if we find a roommate we are planning to add another bathroom downstairs. Your room is currently furnished with a double bed, but can be unfurnished as well. The house is on a big lot with lots of space for gardens or other outdoor activities.
We live a 5 minute walk to a lake and 10 minute walk to a public dock and park at the Newboro locks. The town is very friendly, with lots of dogs and great neighbours. Newboro has a small library, pickleball and tennis courts, and a department store and restaurant. Newboro is about 1.5 hours from Ottawa and 45 minutes from Kingston. We’re 10 minutes from Westport (small grocery store, pharmacy, post office) and 30 minutes from Smiths Falls and Perth for bigger grocery stores/town things.
About the roomies
About us We are both white queers in our late 30s and have been living in Newboro for about two years. We moved here from Ottawa and still spend time in the city regularly. Mandy is a big animal lover and volunteers at a farm sanctuary near Ottawa every week, and works remotely for an environmental non-profit. Chloe loves cooking, playing board games and reading sci-fi and also works remotely for the federal government.
We love hosting dinner parties, usually every couple months with neighbours and friends from out of town. We have a generally quiet household and both love to go for walks with our dog, watch a good show, read or make a nice meal in the evenings. Our dog Pickles is 3 years old and loves people. He’s a bit of a barker at times and we are working on training but most of the time he is pretty calm and sleeps a lot.
About you We are looking for a roommate who is interested in more shared/friendly living since our main motivation for a roommate is to bring more younger, queer (or very queer-friendly) folks to Newboro. Ideally we’d love to be friends and hangout sometimes, possibly sharing meals or playing games.
We’re looking for someone who is generally tidy and likes animals, but other than that we’re open! Unfortunately, we aren’t comfortable bringing more pets in right now, since one of our cats is a lot older and we don’t want to stress her out.
If you’ve read this far and are still interested, please send us a message telling us a bit about yourself!
