About the room

Eco Home/partially furnished, big room, 5 min walk to downtown/transit, shared with a female RMT and a male meditation facilitator in their 40/50’s. Available Sept 1st, 2025 for 1 year.

Please note that the bed is different than in the picture…

Ideal for a respectful, mindful/kind, clean/tidy/organized, eco-minded, social (leaves the house from time to time) non-smoking and health minded individual.

Someone who works a 9-5 at an office or who can work quietly from home is ideal for the living/working situation. I run my massage therapy practice from home, so it’s essential that it’s quiet during the day from Mon-Thur. I often go to my partner’s home in the evenings and wkends and I typically stay in Guelph Monday/Tuesday evening. Jerome is often home during the day working on retreat offerings or making yummy food.

Looking for a peaceful/light footed individual who knows the value in doing the little things to create harmony in a home. Also, someone who doesn’t have a lot of things as the house is furnished and has limited storage. Plugging into your computer or using ear pods while listening to music or watching something is requested so that others can enjoy quiet if they want. Sharing music while cooking dinner is nice etc….Just want to avoid the type of person who listens to loud shows/clips on the train while everyone sits quietly;)

Environmentally, someone who conserves energy because they understand that when we mess up our environment, were basically doing the same to ourselves…So turning down the heat at night and putting on a thick blanket, wearing a sweater and slippers in the winter etc…

The house smells of essential oils from my practice. We clean with non-toxic cleaners like vinegar and effective, natural disinfectant. Natural laundry detergent is used. Synthetic smells like perfumes, shampoos, cologne, certain laundry detergents and incense cause headaches and discomfort…so we’re looking for someone who avoids such things. I use oxyclean with my laundry. I would just like to avoid ongoing synthetic smells. “Synthetic” being the main issue…

When I’m working, if you’re home, the house needs to be pretty quiet and the living room unoccupied. Quietly working upstairs with the door closed works well and taking food/kitchen breaks every hour when clients leave and I change up the room is a good time to run a blender or make noise in the kitchen. Refraining from cooking food like fish etc. would be greatly appreciated when clients are present. The driveway needs to be clear for clients to park when I’m working. Your car, if you have one, can be farther up the driveway or on the road. If you’re in the driveway during working hours, you’ll be able to access your car in the 45 min breaks when clients leave (usually every hour, but could be longer or shorter). Coming in and out of the backdoor would be the most helpful to reduce noise disruption when clients are present. There is a space in the kitchen for jackets and shoes so that the front hallway is left clear.

Rent is $865 inclusive and includes:

  • All utilities (if utilities rise up abnormally quickly from neglect/misuse, then sharing utilities may need to be introduced)
  • Wifi (If you need more speed that is currently available, the upgrade/extra cost is your responsibility)
  • Some storage space in the basement
  • Some storage space in the outside shed
  • Some storage space in the upper washroom
  • Shared garden space (there’s a black walnut tree just fyi, but some veggies still grow…just need to do your research)
  • Use of washer, dryer, drying racks and clothes line/pins
  • Use of powerful blender, coffee grinder etc. pretty much any appliances and dishes in the kitchen

House pros (in my opinion:):

  • Close to downtown, train etc., but not noisy like downtown. About a 5 min. walk to the downtown core and bus stops to the university. -We are pretty considerate, respectful, clean/tidy people who enjoy friendly chats and also enjoy alone time. Jerome and I are good friends and we laugh a good amount.
  • The semi-detached home is shared with quiet neighbours who are friendly. We ask each other for help from time to time if packages arrive and we’re not home.
  • You’re welcome to have an overnight friend or the occasional out of town family/friends stay over. There is a pull out couch in the living room. The room rental is for a single individual however, not a couple or airbnb e.g. partners need to have their own place to live, do laundry etc. Occasional out of town friends/family are welcome to use the amenities as needed to make their stay enjoyable and only welcome on the weekends if they need the pull out couch in the living room (which would need to be put away every morning so that others may use the living room)
  • The room could be furnished with: two solid wood bedside tables, a solid wood desk, a firm queen fold up floor bed (you can add a topper to make it softer). It can also be unfurnished.
  • I’m away most weekends, so there’s often only 2 people in the house…although I reserve the right to be in the home as desired and I sometimes stay the weekend if I’m working on house projects.

Cons:

  • It has to be pretty quiet when I’m working…So that could feel limiting during that time…Or peaceful if you need a quiet place to work….Since Jerome is home during the day, a job where you’re on the phone a lot would not be a good fit.

  • The house is furnished and the space needs to be simple and clear in shared space, so that could limit storage space or creative decorating. For example, there’s not room for more things in the living room, especially since it acts as a waiting room for my business and needs to be kept simple and clean…You are, of course, welcome to be creative in your room space.

  • The house has some storage, but it’s ideal for someone who has minimal things.

About the roomies

I’m a fun, athletic, spiritual, down to Earth and kind 42 year old. I may, in a year, create a home practice in Waterloo.

My interests: x-country skiing, healthy living/eating, gardening, hiking in trees, dance/music, saunas, family/friends/partner

Jerome is 53 and loves meditating, crystal bowls, cooking healthy/yummy meals and organizing cacao dance/meditation retreats. He is very mindful, kind and funny.

We both don’t really drink. Mary enjoys an edible from time to time, but not very much in Guelph…Chronic substance use is not welcome and there’s no cigarette smoking anywhere on the property.

I sometimes bring my cat that lives in Waterloo to Guelph when my partner is away…He is usually quite allergic to cats, but is fine with Stella as she rarely sheds. She’s very sweet and I think kind of magical.

Looking forward to hearing from you:)
