About the room
Retired teacher in owner occupied shared household which has a large rear yard, located very close to a small park, community trails; furnished, all inclusive; all kitchen needs provided by owner (Woks, pots/pans,kettle,coffee maker, steamers, rice cooker, slow cookers, pressure cooker, plates, utensils) free laundry use (some conditions apply); WiFi provided; quiet single family neighbourhood; decent transit with 2 bus routes and light rail located walking distance away. University of Waterloo, and Conestoga College Downtown Campus can be reached directly on LRT, with “Mill Station” a 10 minute walk from home. Bus transit via routes #3 and #16 connect with routes that get you to Kitchener and Waterloo’s downtowns, suburban shopping centres, Conestoga College Doon Campus, Wilfrid Laurier University, and Conestoga College Waterloo Campus. Grocery stores, pharmacies, medical services located nearby. Walk score 77. Bicycle trails are located nearby and secure ‘weather proof’ storage is available for bicycles. Outdoor fireplace and firewood on site…and space for a garden if interested. The house is a solid example of early 1950s construction, with plaster walls and solid core room doors, fully re-insulated for thermal and acoustic improvement. It is heated by boiler/radiator (hydronic) heating, thus central air is not possible…so I use a window a/c unit and fans to circulate cool air, along with conscientious opening and closing of windows to keep heat out and cooled air in. Even with the recent heat, it has seldom been uncomfortable. There is one 4 piece bathroom second floor, and each lower floor has a washroom so no line-ups. Since we share the main bathroom, it is important that everybody is careful to put stuff where it belongs and clean up after themselves…I also clean up in there, daily. Same with kitchen area…we’re all responsible for cleanups after we finish using the kitchen. With a large yard and nearby green space, life can be relaxing and peaceful here.
About the roomies
Apart from owner, all residents are female, (and I have promised all of them that it shall remain that way). A sense of community is encouraged; respect for intelligence, privacy, cooperation and friendship is important. It’s a safe, secure and quiet place to live, and if you like to make meals and dine with other residents, or have stories to tell, wisdom to reveal, enjoy meeting new people yet know privacy and quiet are easy to have here, you’ll be happy. Having a good sense of humour really helps, too. Prefer relatively long term residents but students welcome. Written Tenancy Agreement in use. Sorry…not set up for visitors.
