My name is Rob. I’m 28 and from the UK- and yes- with an accent. I have been studying at UBC for five years for a PhD in sustainable materials science (although everyone seems to think I study art or psychology), with roughly 6 months to go. I work 20 hours a week as an engineer and 20 hours on my PhD. I am a huge skier, hiker, and biker- enjoying all the wonderful things BC has to offer. Spending time outdoors seems like one of the few ways to escape the climate fears!

Generally, I live a busy life out and about Vancouver- although I enjoy the chill evenings we are blessed with too. I’m an easy-going guy who is very very clean, respectful, and tidy when it comes to housing. I generally build my relationships with others with care and love, as I want to support those around me- so hopefully I can be a good friend as well as a roommate. I find myself in and out the house a lot. Some days (1 per week) working from home, and others in the lab. I have my own friends which I love to bits, but I really want to get to know and hang with my roommates. I love the idea of getting back after a long day at work, kicking back and about how they (you?) are doing! Maybe I romanticise it, but I really want to be part of a community that cares. You can also expect some Italian cooking coming your way, as I spent some of my teenage years learning to cook in central Italy!

I deal with conflicts fairly ‘head-on’. Despite my British roots I hate being passive aggressive, and I would prefer just to kindly raise the issue when the other person appears to be in a headspace to discuss concerns. I really appreciate your approach to cleaning and I too like to avoid any dirty counters or dishes. I have a secret love for washing dishes, so you might find your tea mugs or cutlery are done by the dish washing fairy without expectation of reciprocation- a thank you makes my day normally!

I have just moved out with my roommates as the family we rented from moves back to Vancouver. Everyone is going their separate ways due to a change in lifestyle for all of us. We had a great time living together and cooked for one another once a week!
