Description
[I would rather live with majority females.] Hi, I’m De’Jia (deh-JAY-uh). I spent my childhood in the Detroit area of Michigan, USA and moved to Maryland, USA at age 13. After college (and halfway through the pandemic) I taught English in Japan for three years and have recently returned to the west and am relocating to the GTA. My friends would describe me as unique, funny, responsible, and independent. I also have a pretty boisterous laugh. I am severely allergic to cats. In my free time, I like to spend my time dancing, cosplaying, and cooking. I also have a deep appreciation for Japanese language, culture and society and am an avid follower of world news. On the weekends, I often catch up on my favorite animated shows, watch Let’s-play and competitive eating Youtubers, attend local events, and volunteer to help those in need. One of my favorite places to go to is the library.
By my move-in date, I will have secured a job in office administration. The job will have a standard 9-5 schedule. During the week, I’m usually in bed by 11:30 and up by 7. After work, I enjoy winding down in a calm, quiet environment. I don’t go out on weeknights. On the weekends, I’m usually asleep by 12 and up around 9.
I’m a pretty social person one-on-one, but I’m not so good in large group settings. I also value my alone time. I want my house to be a place where I can have people over for special occasions, but not a place that’s constantly full of people. I’m open to the idea of my roommates hosting small parties - I would just like to know about these ahead of time. It would be nice to get to know each other; I’m not saying we have to be best friends or even share social media handles, but I would like to do things like occasionally cook dinner together and host cook outs for friends. I do not like pranks. If you enjoy attending hobby conventions, we could even split a room convention weekend! If you’re not open to the idea of sharing a meal together every once in a while, we’re probably not a good fit.
As for common living spaces, I am OK with “controlled clutter”. I don’t mind if non-food items are left out on tables or chairs as long as they don’t interfere with everyday use of the common spaces (no tripping over things, or claiming all of the space for yourself). Laundry should be kept within our own rooms, of course. Dishes don’t have to be done everyday per se, but giving them a quick rinse and scraping any leftover food and crumbs into the trash should be a common courtesy. I am happy to share cookware like pots and pans and I hope you will be willing to share as well. Please also wipe any spills from the tables, fridge shelves and floors. I simply cannot live with creepy crawly roomies.
I’m open to the idea of a cleaning schedule to keep things organized. In fact, as an ex-resident assistant at a university dormitory, I prefer to have a schedule. Micromanagement is frowned upon. I have also been trained in roommate conflict-resolution and have experience navigating disagreements with others and in aide of others.
My monthly budget is minimum $500 maximum $1000, and I’m looking to move in late September. I’m hoping to find a home in one of the surrounding suburbs of Toronto. For example: North York, Scarborough, York, East York, Mississauga or Brampton. I would like my own bedroom, and I’m open to living with 1-3 other people. If the bedrooms are sized differently enough to justify different prices, I’m happy staying in the larger or smaller room.
Here are some quirks and relevant information: I am neurodivergent. I sometimes experience sensory overload (overwhelm) due to just the overall stress of working in an office environment. So home truly is my sanctuary to decompress and rest. Also, I can’t stand when cupboard doors are left open. I also believe trash belongs in the trash. So, if you’re someone that needs to have the volume on the TV up to the maximum and leaves snack packaging out on the coffee table, we might not be the best fit. With that said, I’m not going to get upset at you for making popcorn at night or watching your favorite TV show at a normal volume. I’m not a smoker nor do recreational drugs and I don’t want to live with smokers or recreational drug users.
