Description
Hello! I am originally from Newfoundland and have been living in NYC for the past 10 years. I am incredibly happy to be moving back home to Canada. I have never lived in Ottawa before, but I have a close group of friends & family in Ottawa, so I am very excited to get to know the city & join a community.
I originally moved to NYC in 2014 when I got married (my spouse is originally from Brooklyn). A few years ago they transitioned and eventually we decided to divorce amicably. Without that connection to NYC any longer I very much wanted to return to Canada.
Renting a room, rather than an apartment, is ideal for me right now because I will be traveling to Newfoundland often to assist my aging parents. Even though I work from home, I rarely work from my home and usually like to leave for the day and work from a local library when possible.
I have always lived with roommates since I was approx 17 and see myself as a fairly flexible and respectful person in the home. My parents had a co-operatively shared home when I was growing up, so I feel very familiar with the ins and outs of a shared living space.
I grew up working in restaurant kitchens and find cleaning and cooking a standard part of day to day life, not a terrible chore, and was one of the original group of folks on the team at the Depanneur in Toronto–this is just a quick way to point out that I am very enthusiastic about community and food.
My day job is with a custom Home builder in Long Island New York and is what pays my bills, but my volunteer work and what I am trying to grow as my careeer is horticultural therapy. I studied horticultural therapy at the NYBG in the Bronx and my focus is on working with seniors.
I have a permaculture design certification and am enthusiastic about gardening. I hope to find a living space that I can contribute positively to & is affordable option for me while I go back and forth to assist my parents in St. John’s.
