Description
Hello neighbors,
I work at Karis Disability Services and I am helping some friends find a home to live with a Host Family. If you have a spare room or two in your home, and you are interested in giving a person a place they can call home, where they feel supported and accepted, and live more independently, then becoming a Host Family may be a great opportunity for you. No special experience necessary.
To become a Host Family, you apply and go through our screening and matching process. Once approved, you are carefully matched with a person (a homsharer) based on preferences, with similar interests and lifestyle, on a full-time, or flexible part-time (respite) basis. We work with you every step of the way to find a great fit.
Host Families are paid per day to cover the cost of room, untilities and meals. The homesharer pays for their own belongings and supplies. Homesharers will often work and volunteer in the community during the week, so Host Families are able to work full time. Some Host Families are retired and enjoy being able to stay in their home while helping and sharing life with someone.
Whatever stage of life you are in, if this sounds like something you would like to try, please reach out to me. I’m happy to answer any questions you have.
People in your community are waiting for a Host Family. Thank you for making our community a more inclusive place where everyone belongs! Katie
